Protect a PDF with a password and file encryption

The Protect PDF tool adds an open password to a document so a PDF reader requests that password when the protected copy is opened. The interface includes password confirmation and a strength indicator to help you choose a stronger password before processing.

The PDF and password are sent to the Nujiz server, where qpdf creates the encrypted copy. Passwords can contain between 4 and 128 characters and the server accepts PDF files up to 50 MB. The interface identifies the protection as AES-256 encryption, and the resulting copy is downloaded with -protected.pdf added to the base filename.

Tips for a better result

Keep the password in a safe place before sharing the file because recipients will need it to open the protected copy. A longer, unpredictable password is preferable to short passwords or easily guessed personal information.
